Setting LPN local site up with VSCode Live Server / Sass

Submitted by Nicolabell on Sat, 07/27/2019 - 20:05

Today I've been trying to get the local LPN site set up with some extensions on VSCode so that we can use this to compile Sass and see changes to theming immediately in the browser.

I've followed Nigel's instructions at

Currently I've got to the point where I want to get the extension to open the site in the browser, so I can start the application watching and compiling sass, but for some reason it is currently opening the directory and not loading the site:

Drupal core update - LPN site with Nigel

Steps for updating core - went through this with Nigel as I was having trouble performing updates manually.

We updated the local site first, then pushed to the repo, then to the production site and logged in to make sure everything had updated successfully.

Local site core update steps:

  • Download live database

  • Open GitKraken (or other Git software) - see if local site up to date with remote repo

ddev rm -a is my hero

If in doubt, ddev rm, ddev rm -a, ddev poweroff, ddev config, ddev restart are all your friends!!!

Phantom projects in list

If a project container is still appearing in ddev list with a status of 'app directory missing' is there any way to delete the container?

Answer: Ddev rm -a or ddev rm project or docker rmOrigina

Duplicate mount point

This morning I had a docker issue similar to yours of yesterday. I got

403 Forbidden nginx on local site

Permissions might not be set correctly for the directory?

I think in ddev I possibly hadn’t specificed ‘drupal8’ when doing ddev config, so just went through config again.

Try going to /install.php

Using ddev to spin up a site

Have borrowed Cripsin's laptop with Ubuntu installed so should now be able to use ddev to spin up a development site!

Once ddev was installed -

Had some issues with the version of composer we were using and at one point we could not kill or stop the container.

I went in holiday in Scotland for two weeks and when I got back for some reason that was all resolved. I did:

cd ~/dockerfolder/ddevfolder/testsite

Ddev start

The Long Dark Dev Environment Configuration of the Soul

Hello, I am still having some issues generating a development environment on my laptop. This is somewhat annoying, but apparently something that everyone struggles with. I am perhaps foolishly using Windows...

Disclaimer: I really don't know what I'm doing.

Some background about this laptop:
